Charles Petty "Monk" Kearns, 89, of Mason, WV, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2026, in West Columbia, WV.

He was born on September 4, 1937, in Clifton, WV, and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Bass) Kearns. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor "Peachie" Kearns, 11 brothers and sisters, and his daughter-in-law, Cathy Kearns.

Monk was a coal miner from the age of 15 until his retirement. He was also well known throughout the community as their local mechanic and could often be found tinkering on something. Above all, Monk was a devoted family man who loved the time spent with his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed their family get-togethers and was an attendee of Clifton Tabernacle Church.

Survivors include his sons, Rocky (Missy) Kearns, Chip (Wanda) Kearns, Ricky (Stacy) Kearns; daughter, Babe (John) Barton; brother, Danny (Joyce) Kearns; sisters, Goldie Duncan and Linda Stewart; grandchildren, Johnny (Krystle) Barton, Adam (Jennifer) Barton, Joe (Alex) Barton, Rocky Jr (Crystal) Kearns, Kathy (Jimmy) Coleman, Lisa (Joe) Cook, Bryan (Leslie) Kearns, Beth Kearns (Kevin Klingsmith), Ricky Jr (Hannah) Kearns, Dalton (Hannah) Kearns, Hallie Kearns, Rocky Kearns III; 26 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-greatgrandchildren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Foglesong-Casto Funeral Home in Mason, WV. The funeral service will be Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Joe Nott officiating.  Friends and family may visit one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service at Sunrise Cemetery in Letart, WV.
