Obituary

Dixie Lee McCauley, 90, passed away on October 31, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Born November 20, 1935, in Braxton County, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Lloyd Argil and Minnie Ann (Conrad) McCauley.

In addition to his parents, Dixie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lorraine McCauley; daughter, Lora Ohlinger; his grandson, Chris Westmoreland; brothers, Denzil and Delmer McCauley; and sister, Terri McCauley.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Danny) Fields; his son, Jon (Teka) McCauley; his sisters, Dorothy Hartman and Delores Hutzel; his grandchildren, Tamra Portales, Amber Lloyd, Stephen Roach, Patrick Westmoreland, Danni Marie Weaver, Shareen Smith, and Mattie Ohlinger; and 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Dixie was a United States Army veteran who served overseas in Germany during peacetime. A retired coal miner and proud member of the UMWA. He was devoted farmer who took pride in his farm and cattle. He was a man of strong faith, determination, and had a work ethic that never seemed to fade.

Dixie was a devoted church member, who spent many years teaching classes and sharing his love of music through singing. Dixie also spent 13 years traveling with the Carpenters for Christ, helping build churches.

Dixie never met a stranger and always enjoyed a good conversation. Every morning, he could be found at Tudor’s, having breakfast and visiting with his group of friends. Those morning gatherings were a cherished part of his routine, and his familiar place among them will surely be missed.

Dixie was also a devoted sports fan, especially when it came to Marshall University, he enjoyed spending time cheering on the Thundering Herd. He was also a loyal supporter of Wahama athletics and loved attending local sporting events whenever he could. Some of his greatest joys came from watching his great-grandchildren play.

Dixie’s life was marked by faith, hard work, and a love for the simple things that brought him joy. From the farm he cherished to the friendships he made and the churches he helped build, he leaves behind countless memories and a legacy that will live on through his family and all who knew him.
