Dorothy Virginia
Parsons
Nov 29, 1937 — Jan 26, 2024
Dorothy Virginia Stockwell Parsons, affectionately known as "Dottie", 86 of New Haven, West Virginia went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday the 26th of January. She left her earthly home surrounded by family to be reunited with her husband of twenty-two years, Larry H. Parsons, daughter April L. Parsons and many other loved ones and family members who went home before her.
Dottie attended Bachtel United Methodist Church in New Haven where she sang in the choir until her health prevented her from doing so.
She was first and foremost a loving wife to Larry, and a dedicated mother to her three children, Joseph, April and Anna. She was fiercely proud of her family and worked hard to maintain her home and provide the best for everyone. She was an excellent cook and baker, a trait she passed on to her youngest daughter Anna.
She was a successful business woman in her own right and a dedicated mother and grandmother, closing her business to babysit and spend time with her grandchildren and any friends they brought home, a chore she thoroughly enjoyed and delighted in.
In her later years she made many trips to Clay County to help her sisters take care of their mother, Rosalee Stockwell.
In her last few years when travel was difficult, she occupied herself watching the Cincinnati Reds, watching the game show channel, and playing rummy. She was quite the card shark and was known as "the ace magnet."
To summarize her life she would be proud to be known as a "child of God", a dedicated mother, grandmother, wife and homemaker.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Larry H. Parsons, daughter April L. Parsons, father Wilbur S. Stockwell, mother Rosalee M. Stockwell, sister Sharon R. Tanner, and brothers, Kenneth R. Stockwell, Doy E. Stockwell, James J. Stockwell, Robert S. Stockwell, and brother- in- laws Frosty Canter and Charles Tanner and sister- in- laws Joyce Stockwell and Irene Stockwell.
She is survived by sisters Violet M. Canter, Betty J. Tanner, and Linda P. Starcher (Delmer), brother Gary F. Stockwell (Linda), brother-in-law Randall Tanner, Son Joseph Parsons (Lynn) and Daughter Anna Barnitz (Scott). Four grandchildren, Holt Barnitz (Alexis), Brice Barnitz (Paula Dixon), Brogan Hutchinson (Michael) and Brian Parsons (Taylor Mann). One great-grandchild Rowan Elizabeth Hutchinson, who brought great joy to Dottie whenever she came to visit. In addition, she had a host of nieces and nephews who all knew her as Aunt Dottie. She loved each and every one of them.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the special caregivers that showed such kindness, love, and care for their mom over the past ten months. Each one was instrumental in keeping her in her home as was her wish. They include Barbara Zuspan, Stacy Kearns, Carrie Kennedy, Sherry Newman, Sally Erwin, Joann Taylor, Chris Stamper, Jayden Angel, Lori Nuetzling, and Teresa Banks. Additionally, the family wishes to thank Huntington Hospice for the care shown during Dottie's last week of life.
