Gregory Dean
Kaylor
Jul 2, 1960 — May 5, 2026
Gregory Dean Kaylor, passed away on the morning of May 5th, 2026 after a long fight that he faced with quiet strength and resilience.
Greg was born on July 2, 1960 and was the son of the late Wendell Kaylor and Zelma (Cremeans) Kaylor.
Greg was a member of the Wahama Class of 1978. While still in high school, he began serving his community as a dispatcher for the Mason County Sheriff's Department. Greg joined the New Haven Volunteer Fire Department in 1975 as a junior firefighter and went on to serve as President, Lieutenant, Assistant Fire Chief, and served as Fire Chief from 1983 to 1994. He took great pride in being a first responder and answered the call without hesitation for several years. In August 2025, Greg was recognized for 50 years of dedicated service to the New Haven Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to being a volunteer firefighter, Greg spent time as a Mason County Sheriff's Deputy and, at one point, also served as Police Chief for the towns of Mason and New Haven. Greg and Connie were the owners of Continuity of Care in Pomeroy, Ohio, a medical supply company serving the medical needs of local residents for many years. Greg also spent a term as mayor of New Haven, West Virginia.
To the community, Greg was a devoted member who took every opportunity to make it a better place and worked hard to lead with honor and integrity. To his family, he was more than just a husband or father or grandfather-he was our steady place, our protector, and the one who showed us what love looks like in action. He loved to joke and make us laugh and those moments will stay with us forever.
Greg leaves behind his teenage sweetheart, Connie. Their relationship spanned over 50 years (married for 44 years), a lifetime of shared memories and enduring commitment to one another. In addition to his loving wife, surviving are sons, Garrett (Brittni) Kaylor and Galen (Erica) Kaylor, daughter, Morgan (Danny) Pruitt, grandchildren, Easton White, Britlyn VanMeter, Emma Kaylor, Ella Kaylor, Aleeah Roush, and Paisley Pruitt. He is also survived by sister, Rhonda (the late Rusty) Wood, brother, Fred (Cheryl) Kaylor, sister-in-law Terry (Tom) Roush, and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
We find comfort in knowing his battle has ended and he is finally at peace
