Obituary

John Henry Russell, 87, passed away peacefully February 23, 2025, in Marshfield, MO at his home surrounded by his family and so much love.

He was born June 15, 1937, in West Columbia, WV and was the son of the late Lester and Catherine Russell.

John started his career in the utility industry in 1958 at Kyger Creek Power Plant in Cheshire, Ohio. In 1960 John moved his family to Boonville, IN and worked for Southern Indiana Gas and Electric Company. Alongside of his Power Plant job he managed Boonville Country Club where his family resided and made many wonderful memories. Through the years he was promoted to assistant operations superintendent, maintenance superintendent, and manager of production operations working at Dave Johnston Power Plant in Glenrock, Wyoming, Jim Bridger Power Plant in Rock Springs, Wyoming and then on to Sunflower Electric in Holcomb, KS where he retired in 2002. John's sharp leadership, keen sense of fairness, and ability to decide the proper course of action has earned him great respect and the admiration of those who have worked with him. He took much pride in his career and has mentioned on many occasions that it served him well. After retiring from his power plant career John worked building boat docks at Eufaula Lake in Oklahoma for several years.

John was a kind and gentle man and has never been remembered for saying a negative word about anyone. To know him was to love him and he had many friends to prove that.

John enjoyed life to the fullest in everything he did. Throughout his life he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, baseball, horseshoes, water sports and gardening. He had a great love for children, pets and old-time country music.

Left behind to cherish his memories are his children, Carol Hargett of Crestwood, KY, Rebecca Kaisler (Ty) of Marshfield, MO, Debra Nichol (Doug) of Lenoir City, TN, John Russell (Jill) of Rockport, TX, Dustin Russell (Lauren) of Muskogee, OK: grandchildren, Shane Grimes (Kim), Brandy Deveraux, Josh Deveraux, Jacey Ahrenholtz, Seth (Jamie) Hargett, Grant Kaisler (Carolina), Leah Elliot (Ricky), Graham Viergets (Rachel), Blake Kaisler, John Gregory Russell, Caiden Russell, Ainsley Russell and Henry Russell (namesake); 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Betty Reid and many nieces and nephews.
