Martha Sue (Thompson) Friend, passed away unexpectedly March 30, 2025 at Cabell Huntington Hospital
She was born July 5, 1946 in Mason, WV a daughter of the late, Albert & Hollice Thompson of Letart, WV.
Martha was a devoted member of Oak Grove Church where she sang in the choir and also served as a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years. She loved the Lord, she loved everyone, and everyone loved her. She found joy in gardening, cooking, canning, sewing, quilting, and giving to others.
She was a proud member of Woodmen Life, where she served as treasurer, and a proud member of the Quilters' Guild. She also volunteered at the Bend Area Food Pantry. Helping others brought her great fulfillment, and her warmth and compassion touched many lives.
She was preceded in death by her son, Raymond Friend; her mother, Hollice Erlewine Thompson; and her father, Albert D. Thompson; and her sister Harriet Flo Thompson Sisk and brother in law Bruce Sisk.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Roy Friend; sons, Norman Friend and Bruce Friend; sister-in-law, June Friend; brother-in-law, Ray Friend (Pat); sister Jo Turley (Jim), and Jenny Hayman (Mike); grandchildren, Tyler Roney (Pheobee), Tess Walters (Kenny), Holden Friend, Raven, and Rantin Friend; great-grandchildren; Piper Jade, Tillie and Henry Walters, Waylen Friend, and Waverly Hines.
Services will be held at Foglesong-Casto Funeral Home in Mason, West Virginia, with Pastor Randy Parsons and Pastor John Bumgarner officiating.
Visitation will be Friday, April 4, 2025, from 6 to 8 PM.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 PM, with the service beginning at 3 PM.
Burial will follow in Letart-Evergreen Cemetery.
Dinner in her honor will be held at the Letart Community Building following the burial.
