Rev. Mary Etta Cook, R.N. of Pomeroy OH, 89, departed this life to meet the Lord on Jan. 13, 2025. Born Dec. 6,1935, to John E. McGirr and Nellie (Thomas) in Huntington, WV, she was preceded in death by her McGirr siblings John E., Jr., Hilda Irene, Leroy E. and Lindsey L., and husbands Ray L. Jacobs Sr., Rev. Arlen A. Hughes, Dale McDaniel, and Rev. Harold D. Cook.

The matriarch and spiritual leader of a large family, she leaves behind her four children:  Elizabeth A. Nickels (Donald) of Pomeroy, Donna J. Northup (Gary) of Mason, WV, Ray L. Jacobs, Jr. (Sheila) of Canal Winchester, OH and Steven D. Jacobs (Carla) of Sugar Grove, OH, 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous step children and grandchildren. Also surviving her is her beloved fur baby and loyal companion, Topper.

Mary was a devoted, charismatic teacher of God's Word, having served as a minister, evangelist and pastor for about 60 years who never missed an opportunity to witness for the Lord. She also worked many dedicated years as a registered nurse. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and former congregants, leaving a void that is only filled by the comfort that she now rests in heaven with her Savior.  Her life-long prayer has been for those left behind to someday join her in heaven's rewards through Christ Our Lord.

Service will be 2 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2025, at Foglesong Funeral Home, Mason, WV, with Pastors Jason Simpkins and Leah Starkey officiating. Burial will follow at the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cheshire, OH. Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. until time of the service on Friday, at the funeral home.
