William E. (Pooge) Greer, 85, of New Haven, WV, passed away Saturday, October, 17, 2026, at Holzer ER in Pomeroy, OH following an extended illness surrounded by loved ones.

Pooge was born in Mason, WV, on February 4, 1942, to the late Robert E. (Bob) and Bernice N. (Coleman) Greer. He was also preceded in death by a brother in law, Jerry Crawford.

Pooge was a graduate of Wahama High School, Class of 1960 where he played football and basketball. Pooge was a boilermaker for 35 years with Local Union #667 until he retired in 2002. Pooge (The Cowboy) had a lifelong love for horses, which they say he was on a horse before he could walk, He trained and showed horses and was well known in the horse community all over. He sold his last horse when he was at the age of 81 due to health reasons. It was the first time in his life that he did not have a horse since he was 2 years old. He also was an avid sports fan with football and basketball as his favorite sports to watch. He even still played basketball as a hobby every Tuesday at the community center in New Haven, WV, with all age groups that wanted to play up until his Age of 80. Pooge had A big love for family and friends. He loved when even there was a family get together and even a chat with someone on the street that he would run into.

He is survived by his son, John W. Greer (Aamanda Jarrell) of New Haven, WV; grandchildren, Shalyn Cree Greer of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, John Casey Greer of New Haven, WW; a life partner, Nancy Ohlinger of Point Pleasant, WV; a sister, Sue Crawford of New Haven, WV; nephew and nieces, Ronnie Smith of New Haven, WV, Carol (Jimmy) Miller of Hartford, WV, Julie (Tim) Spires of Bidwell, OH; great nephews and niece, Michael (Kelsey) Taylor of Bidwell, OH, J.W. (Tina) Miller of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Josh (Aubree) Miller of Middleport, OH, Aamanda Smith of Dade City, FL; plus many cousins and great-great nephews and nieces; as well as close lifelong friends. Pooge will be missed by many.

Service will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Foglesong Funeral Home, Mason, WV, with Pastor Patrice Wyrick officiating. Burial will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Letart, WV. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the funeral home.
